Welcome to the Abbott Sisters Project webpage, celebrating the founding and ongoing sponsorship of this project by the Grand Island Public Library Foundation, Inc.

This site’s goals:

To be this long-term project’s most complete, authoritative and balanced presentation of the lives and influences of Edith and Grace Abbott, Grand Island native sisters and social service/policy pioneers.

To show how this project is spreading the word of their importance in our lives today, both through our local collaboration between our Library, Stuhr Museum and the Grand Island School District, as well as project director John Sorensen’s efforts.

On these pages you’ll find:

Information about Abbott Sisters Project events, progress and historic highlights.

Information about two excellent and comprehensive research collections.

Our Library’s Abbott Sisters Research Center, a major reason for two distinguished honors bestowed upon our Library in 2003 - Moonshell Arts Council “Arts and Humanities Project Award” and Nebraska Center for the Book “Jane Geske Award”.

Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer’s holdings pertaining to the Abbotts.

And links to Abbott Sisters information at the Grand Island Independent and various websites.
