What
is BabyTALK?
BabyTALK is a program in place since 1992 that encourages parents to read to their
babies and small children.
Research shows that the most important thing you can do to ensure
a successful school experience for your children is to read
to them from birth. Where Can I Get More Information?
Call or write:
Baby TALK
Edith Abbott MemonaI Library
211 North Washington
Grand Island, Nebraska 68801
(308) 385-5333 Who is Eligible For BabyTALK?
All parents who deliver babies at the St. Francis Medical Center
in Grand Island, Nebraska, may participate in the program.
When Does the BabyTALK Program Start?
A BabyTALK volunteer will visit all new parents at
the St. Francis Medical Center to provide some information about
infant development and suggestions for appropriate activities
for your baby. Good books are discussed and each family will
choose one of several books as our gift as the first title in
Baby's own home library collection-to-be! What
Happens Next?
Parents of BabyTALK babies will receive helpful information
through the mail during their baby's first two years. They will
be invited to attend twice-monthly lapsits (family storytimes)
for babies 1-3 years old. They will be invited to the library
to receive a free birthday gift when Baby is one year old and
to have Baby's picture taken for our BabyTALK photo display.
Library staff will then give each family a brief tour of the
children's department and show them special resources available
for both child and parenting needs! Is There
a Cost?
There is no charge for the book and visit and all follow-up
BabyTALK programming. This program is privately funded through donations to the Grand Island Public Library Foundation, Inc. and is grateful for the continuing cooperation of St. Francis Medical Center and a dedicated group of library volunteers for this program's success.
