Networking - Join Mailing Lists and Newsgroups
The main difference between a mailing list and a newsgroup is that mailing lists send the e-mail messages directly to your in-box, while messages for a newsgroup are posted at a central location where you must log in to read the messages.
RootsWeb mailing lists are located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/.
They are divided into
Surname/Family Lists, Regional Lists, Ethnic Groups Lists, General
Interest Lists, Software Lists and Miscellaneous Lists. The surname/family
lists are valuable for finding people who are researching the same family
you are working on. Regional lists help you find valuable resources
in the area you are researching, and may connect you with others from your
extended family who are searching the same geographic area.
